Biliards tables come in loads of individual sizes. The more common sizes are 7, 8 and nine foot billiard tables. For little areas, there are even six-foot sizes, for tight spaces and smaller rooms, etc. Another word for pool is pocket billiards. As you can imagine, there are pockets along the edges of the table for the balls to go in.
Usually there are half-dozen pockets on a biliards table, every corner of the table has one (these are corner pockets). Also on the longer edge in between the corner pockets are the side pockets.
There are a lot of choices of biliards games that you can play. The more noted being 8-ball, one-pocket, straight pool, and nine-ball.
The playing face of the pool table will constantly be rectangular, with a 2 to 1 proportion of length to width of the total measurement. There’s also commonly a 1/8th inch margin of error for this measurement. Here are the flat face measurements for the several types of tables:
Nine Foot Pool Table: 100″ x 50″
Eight Foot Billiards Table: 92″ x 46″
7 Ft. Pool Table: 76″ x 38″
The 9-ft. and the 8-{ft.foot} tables are the exclusive sizes that are officially recognized for tournament pool gaming by the World Pool Billiard Association.
The pockets of the billiards table are available in either in plastic or leather. Some tables can have pockets fabricated out of leather to capture the balls. While the coin-operated pool tables in pool halls and bars commonly have runs built into the table to recall the balls to one side of the table.
The bed of the pool table (as authorized by the WPA for tournament contests) has to be made up of of slate that is 1″ in thickness. Biliards tables for home function may be fewer than one inch thick. And at times supplementary types of materials can be used, like synthetic types of materials, or wood. In the better brands, although, most of them yet use one inch slate for the bed.
Marks are used along the edges of the pool table (called rails) on which to view the pool balls in the way that you want it to go. The markings could likewise be named diamonds. Most often they are used for kick or bank shots. There are six diamond-markings along each longer side railing that separate the field into equal areas. These are terrific for lining up your shots.
Areas called spots will be used to label where the lead and the foot are. There can be an area made for racking-up the balls. Sometimes there will be lines drawn on the table surface to lay out grids for playing pool.
